Evaluation Assessment

To achieve a level 4 (A grade) on your evaluation you must demonstrate:

  • excellent skill in the use of digital technology or ICT through the use of your blog and the different forms of digital presentation you use, including audio and video.
  • excellent understanding of the forms and conventions used in the video and print productions through accurate use of media terminology.
  • excellent understanding of the role and use of new media in various stages of the production such as blogger, prezi, scribd, youtube, sound cloud, voki, iMovie, fireworks, digital hd/ still cameras, etc. etc.
  • excellent understanding of the combination of main product and ancillary texts, through consistent use of images, logos, house styles etc.
  • excellent understanding of the significance of audience feedback on all of your products and what you have down to respond to this which may include re-editing or re-doing!
  • excellent in the choice of format(s)  in which to present your evaluation.
  • excellent ability to communicate.
Remember that you need to score highly to hang onto the grade you already have so make sure your evaluation is above all thorough, detailed and in depth.  Explain, describe and above all fully justify what you are saying with clear evidence to support you.  Make it as visual as possible with screenshots and grabs wherever possible.  As a guide it should be about 50:50 balance between words and images.

It MUST not be brief!

It must be linked to your BLOG and clearly identified on a MENU tab for navigation.

It must be finished by the end of the first week back after Easter.

DEADLINE FOR COMPLETION

YOU MUST HAVE THIS EVALUATION COMPLETED BY FRIDAY 5TH MAY PERIOD 1.

Tuesday, 15 April 2014

Further guidance- read this if you want to complete a successful A2 Media evaluation!

You are being marked on how well you are demonstrating the following criteria in your evaluation.

• understanding of the forms and conventions used in the productions.
• understanding of the role and use of new media in various stages of the production.
• understanding of the combination of main product and ancillary texts.
• understanding of the significance of audience feedback.
• skill in choice of form in which to present the evaluation.
• ability to communicate.
• use of digital technology or ICT in the evaluation.

There are four levels: minimal, basic, proficient and excellent.

The following tasks will help you structure your answers and provide appropriate ICT, communication and presentation variables to aid you in reaching the top grade.

Set up each evaluation question as a separate blog post.

Question 1 - In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

• Task 1: Establish what the forms and convention are for each of the real media products (trailers, posters & movie magazine front cover) use examples.  I would recommend using www.padlet.com to present this.
• Task 2: Insert screen grabs of your finished trailers and use www.blubbr.tv to annotate your trailers illustrating how they use (don't change existing), develop (alter or modify existing) or challenge (completely change or alter existing) forms and conventions of real media products.  This could be added straight to your blog.
• Task 3: Insert an image of your final movie magazine cover page and your final poster (s) and annotate again illustrating how they use, develop or challenge.  This could be added straight to your blog.

Question 2 - How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
Your outcome to this may vary depending on your skills and the equipment available to you. Here are a few suggestions on how you might present the required information.

1. Create a video (effectively a DVD extra) discussing, pausing, at appropriate points in your short film to highlight how your ancillary tasks work with your short film.  You could edit your print products into it and include footage directly from your trailer combined with audience feedback.

2. Use a series of screen grabs from your trailers alongside the print ancillary tasks to illustrate how you have combined the effect of the 3 products and accompany these images with a written supporting statement of between 750-1250 words.

3. Produce an audio recording using www.soundcloud.com of your explanations embedded into your blog alongside images and screen shots of your products that have hotspots linked to them using www.thinglink.com.

Additional task – Ask your audience for feedback on the “effectiveness” of the combination of the products and include them in your write up / ICT presentation alongside your responses.

Question 3 - What have you learned from your audience feedback?

• Planning: You will need to ask your target audience as well as classmates for their feedback on all three of your products. Prepare a few questions to help you direct the conversation to enable you to get useful answers from them.

• Task 1: Record your audience feedback using your phone or the microphone on the iMacs or video them and upload it directly onto your blog. (Audio tracks will need to be embedded via www.soundcloud.com and videos via www.Youtube.com)

• Task 2: Write your own response / reflections on the feedback you’ve been given directly onto your blog answering the questions:

o What have you learned from the feedback?
o You might also consider how did your feedback change the work you were doing?
o What would you change if you could do the project again now you have this feedback?

Question 4 - How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

• Planning:
o Research and define the term “new media technologies”.
o Create a list of new media technologies you have used at each stage of production.

• Task 1: Create a montage of images (needs to be a jpeg so either fireworks or PowerPoint perhaps) to illustrate the new media technologies you have used in the construction of your work. Number each image. Insert final montage onto your blog.

• Task 2: Write a short paragraph on each image saying how you used it and highlighting what you would have needed to do had the technology not been available.  Make sure you explain what you have learnt from using these technologies and why they are effective in helping your communication.

They might include;

iMovie, fireworks, digital cameras, digital video cameras, sound effects, microphones for voice overs, google, slideshare, blogger, weebly, youtube, soundcloud, padlet, prezi, scribd, thinglink, voki, blubbr or any others that you may have used in any of the activities for research, construction or evaluation.

There are 20 marks up for grabs on the evaluation, that can be the difference between 2 grades.  Don't waste it!

All four questions must be done by the first lesson back!

Evaluation

You must write your own evaluation.

You must make it clear exactly what you have contributed to the group work.  What work did you do on your own, what role did you play in the group work?

The evaluation must be presented via a blog and using a range of interactive content.

This content must include use of a variety of:

www.youtube.com
www.soundcloud.com
www.thinglink.com
www.padlet.com
www.scribd.com

THIS IS A NECESSITY.

For a basic evaluation you must address these four questions.  You can add further content that you feel is appropriate.  Your evaluation must be detailed and thorough and use correct media terminology.

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

2. How effective is the combination of your main product (trailers) and ancillary texts (print products)?

3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?

4. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Some examples you may want to look at.
